Laptop with power issues

A job came into us this week with the problem, "Intermittant power problems and getting very hot". Well it didn't take us long to diagnose, infact just seconds after being place on our engineer's desk, the problem was obvious (see diagram). Not only is this dangerous to the laptop, it is very dangerous to anyone surrounding a cable like this that is plugged into the mains. Please do not risk anyone's life for the sake of a few pounds and sticking electrical tape arond a tear is not a fix either. Ask a specialist which adapter is required and replace it before its too late.
